1. Training Objectives
To meet the international community's growing demand for Chinese language education professionals, promote the development of Chinese language education worldwide, and support the growth of international Chinese language education professionals, the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the Center) has established the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship), focusing on cultivating qualified overseas Chinese language teachers. Confucius Institutes, independently established Confucius Classrooms, some Chinese language examination centers, relevant foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teacher programs/departments at universities, relevant foreign Chinese language teaching organizations, and Chinese embassies and consulates abroad (hereinafter referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to study and further their studies in international Chinese language education and related majors at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as Host Institutions).


II. Funding Targets
1. Non-Chinese nationals.
       2. Friendly to China, clean of criminal records, and abiding by Chinese government laws, regulations, and school rules and regulations.
       3. Physically and mentally healthy, with excellent character and academic performance.
       4. Aspiring to engage in Chinese education, teaching, and related work.
       5. Aged 16-35 (as of September 1, 2025). The age limit for in-service Chinese teachers is 45 years old. Undergraduate scholarship applicants are generally under 25 years old.



III. Scholarship Categories and Application Requirements:
      1. Master’s students majoring in International Chinese Education

          (Enrollment in September 2025, funding period is 2 years)
          Possess a bachelor's degree. Chinese proficiency test scores of at least 210 on the HSK (Level 5) or 60 on the HSKK (Intermediate). Applicants who provide a work agreement or other supporting documentation from the institution they intend to teach at after graduation will be given priority.
      2. Undergraduate students majoring in International Chinese Education
          (Enrollment in September 2025, funding period is 4 years)
          Possess a high school diploma. Chinese proficiency test score of at least 210 points on the HSK (Level 4) or 60 points on the HSKK (Intermediate).
      3. First-year trainees         
          (Enrollment in September 2025, funding period is 11 months)
          Chinese language training direction (Basic Chinese, Business Chinese), Chinese language test score of 210 or above (HSK (Level 3)). Applicants who provide HSKK scores are preferred.

      4. First-semester trainees
         (Enrollment in September 2025 and March 2026, funding period is 5 months)
          Chinese language training direction (Basic Chinese, Business Chinese), Chinese language test score of 180 points or above (HSK (Level 3)), HSKK score.





IV. Application Procedures
      Step 1: Starting from February 20, 2025 , applicants can log in to the website of the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center ( Contact E-Square to obtain the website ) and go to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship section to check the recommended institutions and receiving universities ; submit application materials online.

      Step 2: Register an account in the UIBE registration system and submit all registration materials ( contact E-Square to obtain the website ; select "self-funded" when registering )
      Step 3: Send the application materials to Contact E-Square to obtain information  . The email title should be "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship + English Name + Passport Number "
      Step 4: Monitor the application process, review opinions, and scholarship evaluation results. Scholarship recipients will confirm with the receiving institution and complete the necessary study abroad procedures. Students will then register for admission according to the date specified in the receiving institution's admission notice. Final results will be released three months prior to enrollment.
      Deadline (based on Beijing time):
     1.  September admission : The  application deadline is May 15th , and the review deadline for the recommending institution is May 25th
     2.  March 2026 : The  application deadline for students admitted is October 31. The review deadline for recommending institutions and receiving institutions is November 10.


V. About Current Chinese Teachers and Chinese Bridge Award Winners
    1. In-service Chinese Teachers:
In-service Chinese teachers applying for various scholarships can provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from their current employer. They will be given priority admission among all other applicants.
    2. Chinese Bridge winners:
Those who have received the "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Certificate" from various Chinese Bridge competitions should visit the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship website and submit their application materials to their target host institution with their scholarship certificate.

6. Others
     1. Applicants who have received similar scholarships within the past three years will not be admitted to the One-Semester and One-Academic-Year Programs.
     2. For relevant professional training programs and teaching courses, please consult the target host institution
     3. Applicants must understand the specific admission requirements and application deadlines of the target institutions and submit application materials in accordance with relevant regulations.
     4. Degree students must participate in an annual review. For details, please refer to the "Annual Review Methods for the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship"
     5. Please contact the receiving institution promptly for admission and other related matters.
     6. Scholarship eligibility will be cancelled if students fail the entrance physical examination, drop out midway, or fail to register on time without permission.


VII. Attachments
    1. Scholarship Funding Content and Criteria


The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses (except for four-week trainees) and comprehensive medical insurance.
1. Tuition fees will be used by the host institution to support the student's education and management, cultural activities, and Chinese language exams. The online scholarship program only covers tuition fees.
2. Accommodation fees are paid by the host institution. Free dormitories are generally double rooms. Scholarship students who choose to live off-campus, upon application and approval by the host institution, will receive monthly or quarterly accommodation fees. The monthly fee for doctoral students is RMB 1,000, and for other scholarship students, it is RMB 700.
3. Living allowance will be paid monthly by the host institution. Undergraduate students and one-year and one-semester trainees receive RMB 2,500 per month; Master's students in International Chinese Education receive RMB 3,000 per month; and PhD students in International Chinese Education receive RMB 3,500 per month.
Scholarship students must register for school on the date specified in the admission notice of the receiving institution; otherwise, their scholarship will be revoked. Students who register before the 15th of the month (inclusive) will receive a full monthly living allowance; students who register after the 15th will receive half a month's living allowance.
Scholarship students who leave China for more than 15 days due to personal reasons during their studies (excluding winter and summer vacations) will have their living allowance suspended.
Scholarship students who suspend or withdraw from their studies for personal reasons or receive disciplinary action from the host institution will have their living allowance suspended from the date of suspension, withdrawal, or receipt of the disciplinary notice. Graduates will receive living allowance until two weeks after the graduation date determined by the school.
4. Comprehensive medical insurance premiums are regulated by the Ministry of Education of China's regulations for international students studying in China and are purchased by the host institution. The standard for four-week trainees is RMB 100 per person, for one-semester trainees it is RMB 400 per person, and for trainees of one academic year or longer it is RMB 800 per person per year.


    2. Scholarship Application Materials Checklist
1. Documentary documentation relevant to all applicants :
1. Scan of passport photo page.
2. Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for two years).
3. Recommendation letter from the head of the recommending institution.
2. Documents related to degree-seeking students:
4. Provide proof of highest academic qualification (proof of expected graduation) and academic transcripts.
5. Applicants with a Master's degree in International Chinese Education must provide letters of recommendation from two advisors with the rank of Associate Professor or above. Applicants who provide employment agreements with their intended teaching institutions after graduation will be given priority for funding.
3. In-service Chinese teachers must attach a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation issued by their current employer.
4. Applicants under the age of 18 must submit a power of attorney signed by their guardian in China.
5. Applicants must also provide other supporting documents required by the receiving institution.
