This scholarship
supports outstanding students and in-service Chinese teachers who are passionate about the Chinese language and culture and willing to contribute to international Chinese language education and cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. These students will study and further their studies in international Chinese language education and related majors at Shandong University.

Application Period
: For September 2025 admission, the application deadline is May 15,
2025. For March 2026 admission (one-semester trainees only), the application deadline is October 31, 2025. For
four-week trainees, the application deadline is April 15, 2025, or September 15, 2025, for July or December 2025 admission.

Application Requirements
: Basic Requirements:
Non-Chinese nationals; Friendly to China, with no criminal record, and abiding by Chinese laws, regulations, and school rules and regulations; Physically and mentally healthy, with excellent character and academic performance; Aspiring to pursue a career in Chinese language education, teaching, or related fields.

Educational Requirements and Age Requirements
: Age requirement: 16-35 years old (as of September 1, 2025); the age limit for in-service Chinese language teachers may be relaxed to 45 years old. Undergraduate scholarship applicants are generally under 25 years old.
Applicants must meet the relevant requirements of the "Shandong University 2025 International Student (Undergraduate) Admissions Brochure," "Shandong University 2025 International Student (Master's) Admissions Brochure," and "Shandong University 2025 International Student (Chinese Studies) Admissions Brochure."

Language requirements for
Master of International Chinese Education programs: HSK (Level 6) score of 180 or higher, HSKK (Intermediate) score of 60 or higher. Applicants who provide a work agreement or relevant certification from their intended teaching institution after graduation will be given priority.
Undergraduate students in International Chinese Education programs: HSK (Level 5) score of 180 or higher, HSKK (Intermediate) score of 60 or higher.
One-year students in International Chinese Education programs: HSK (Level 3) score of 270 or higher, with HSKK scores available.
Chinese Language and Literature programs: HSK (Level 4) score of 180 or higher, HSKK (Intermediate) score of 60 or higher.
Chinese Studies programs: HSK (Level 3) score of 210 or higher, with HSKK scores available.
One-semester International Chinese Education/Chinese Language and Literature Program: HSK (Level 3) score of 180 or above, HSKK score required.
Tai Chi Culture Program: HSK score required, HSKK score preferred.
Four-week Chinese Language/Tai Chi Culture Program: HSK score required. Recommending institutions can organize group registrations and contact Shandong University in advance to confirm study plans (10-15 people/group).

Funding programs and details include
tuition, accommodation, living expenses (except for four-week program), and comprehensive medical insurance.
Online programs only cover tuition.

Application Process:
Starting March 1, 2025, applicants can visit the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship website (Contact E-Square to get website). Select Shandong University as your preferred institution, submit your application materials online, and monitor the application progress. After review, applicants must complete their personal information and upload relevant documents on the Shandong University International Student Application System (Contact E-Square to get website). Upon approval by the university, an admission letter will be issued. Applicants will then apply for a study visa to China and register for enrollment on time. All

applicants
must submit the following: A scanned copy of their passport photo page (valid until March 1, 2026 or later); HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for two years); and a letter of recommendation from the head of the recommending institution.
Applicants with a degree program must additionally submit: their highest academic certificate (proof of expected graduation) and academic transcripts. Applicants for the Master of Arts in International Chinese Education program must provide two letters of recommendation from their supervisors holding the rank of Associate Professor or above. Applicants who provide employment agreements with their intended teaching institutions after graduation will be given priority.
Applicants currently teaching Chinese as a profession must submit: a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation from their current employer; HSK scores are waived.
Applicants under the age of 18 must submit: a guardian's letter of guarantee (downloadable from: https://www.istudy.sdu.edu.cn - "Common Downloads"); the guardian must be an adult residing in Shandong; a notarized power of attorney signed by the applicant's parents and guardian; and the guardian's ID card or passport.
Other application materials: "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" (download link: https://www.istudy.sdu.edu.cn - "Common Downloads"), the results of which are valid for 6 months; a certificate of no criminal record (issued by the public security department of the applicant's country of residence, valid for 6 months); a personal statement in Chinese, including: a personal introduction; an account of China and Shandong University; an understanding of the program of study; and a study plan.
For current Chinese teachers and "Chinese Bridge" award winners, current Chinese teachers can provide a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation from their current employer and are exempt from submitting an HSK score. "Chinese Bridge" award winners holding the "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Certificate" can submit their application materials directly on the scholarship's official website.
