Applicants

1. Non-Chinese nationals;
2. Applicants must be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
3. Be physically and mentally healthy, and have excellent academic performance and moral character;
4. Interested in engaging in Chinese education, teaching and related work;

Educational requirements

Applicants who come to China to study undergraduate programs must have a degree equivalent to a Chinese high school diploma.

Age requirement

Age not exceeding 25 years old (as of September 1, 2025).

Language requirements

The Chinese language test score must be 210 points for HSK (Level 4) or 60 points for HSKK (Intermediate).

Funding Content and Standards
 

1. Tuition waiver
2. Free dormitory: economic double room (public bathroom); scholarship students who choose to live off-campus upon application and approval by the host institution will receive a monthly accommodation fee of RMB 700 per person from the school.
3. Monthly living allowance of RMB 2,500 will be provided. Students who register before the 15th of the month will receive the full amount; those who register after the 15th will receive half of the monthly allowance.
4. Comprehensive medical insurance. The school purchases it in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of China for studying in China, with a standard of RMB 800 per person per year.

   Application Methods

   Step 1: Apply online

   1. Apply online at the International Education Center and pay the application fee.
   Log in to the online application system of the International Education Center of East China Normal University  ( Contact E-Square to get website ), submit your application and pay the application fee.
   
   
   2. Apply on the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship website.

   Contact E-Square to get website to complete the registration between February 20th and May 15th  .

   Step 2: Contact the "recommendation agency" for online recommendation

   1. Recommending institutions:
   1) Applicants can visit the website of the China Language Exchange and Cooperation Center ( Contact E-Square to get website ) and search for the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship section to find the recommended institutions and receiving colleges.
   2) Chinese Bridge Award Winners: Those who have received the "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Certificate" in various Chinese Bridge competitions should visit the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship website and submit their application materials to their target host institution with their scholarship certificate. If you have any questions, please contact E-Square.
   2. If the applicant decides to choose "East China Normal University" as the recommending institution, please select "East China Normal University" from the drop-down list under HSK Test Center (Non-Confucius Institute) - Asia - China. The recommendation letter can be downloaded here:

   3. After selecting a recommending institution and submitting the online application, applicants should contact the recommending institution for online recommendation.
   
    

   Step 3: Wait for the video interview notification

   The School of International Chinese and Culture at East China Normal University will organize interviews for students who pass the document review. Interviews will be video interviews, and interview times will be notified by email and phone. Please ensure you provide valid contact information.
   
    

   Step 4: Track your application status online

   You can check the application progress and status through your registered email address or the East China Normal University International Student Online Application System.
   *Please make sure your email address is correct and check your email regularly to avoid missing important notifications (such as interview notifications, etc.).
   
    

   Step 5: Admission and Enrollment

   Admission results can be checked on the East China Normal University International Student Online Application System. Admitted students must arrive at the university and register strictly according to the time specified in the admission notice. Original graduation certificates and degree certificates will be verified upon arrival. Those who do not obtain the necessary certificates will be disqualified from admission.

   Application Materials

   1.  Fill out the online application form  Contact E-Square to get scholarships form

   2.  Scanned copy of your passport photo page .
   *Applicants under the age of 18 must have their parents formally authorize a foreigner or Chinese resident in China to act as their guardian and submit a notarized guardianship guarantee.
   3.  Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for 2 years).
   4. Recommendation letter issued by the head of the recommending institution
   5.  Certification of highest academic qualification (proof of expected graduation) and academic transcripts .
   *Proof of expected graduation or proof of current studies, transcripts. If the certificate is not in Chinese or English, a notarized document must be provided.
   6.  Personal statement (Chinese language learning background, study plans and goals in China, etc.). Please write in Chinese or English, print, and affix the applicant's signature.
   7. A copy of the “Foreign Human Examination Records” .

   This form is printed and prepared by the Chinese health and quarantine authorities and must be completed in English. A Foreigner Physical Examination Record that is missing any information, does not have a photo or a stamp on the photo, or is signed and stamped by the physician and hospital will be invalid.
   8.  Certificate of no criminal record .

   Note:
   * Chinese Bridge winners must provide the "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Certificate".
   * Current Chinese teachers must provide a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation from their current employer.

   Precautions

   Faxed application materials will not be accepted.

   
   Applications with incomplete documents or unpaid application fees will not be accepted.
   Regardless of whether the applicant is admitted or not, the above application materials and application fees will not be refunded.
   If the application materials are false, the application will be disqualified once verified.
   If a scholarship recipient cannot register on time for any reason, they must inform the university in writing and state the reason 15 days before the registration date. Scholarship eligibility will be revoked if the recipient fails to register without reason.
   Students who fail the entrance physical examination, drop out or take a leave of absence will be disqualified from the scholarship.
