To meet the international community's growing demand for Chinese language education professionals, promote the development of Chinese language education worldwide, and support the growth of international Chinese language education professionals, the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the Center) has established the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship), focusing on cultivating qualified overseas Chinese language teachers. Confucius Institutes, independently established Confucius Classrooms, some Chinese language examination centers, relevant foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teaching programs/departments at universities, relevant Chinese language teaching organizations abroad, and Chinese embassies and consulates abroad (hereinafter referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to study and further their studies in international Chinese language education and related fields at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as Hosting Institutions).
I. Funding Targets
1. Non-Chinese nationals;
2. Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;
3. Physically and mentally healthy, with excellent character and academic performance;
4. Interested in engaging in Chinese education, teaching and related work;
5. Applicants must be between 16 and 35 years old (calculated as of September 1, 2025). The age limit for in-service Chinese teachers is relaxed to 45 years old. Undergraduate scholarship applicants are generally under 25 years old.
II. Scholarship Categories and Application Requirements
Dalian University of Technology's enrollment categories this year include Chinese teacher training programs (Master of International Chinese Education, undergraduate students of International Chinese Education, one-year trainees, one-semester trainees, and four-week trainees) and online scholarship programs.
Category 1: Chinese teacher training projects
1. Undergraduate students majoring in International Chinese Education
Enrollment will be in September 2025, and the funding period is 4 years.
Possess a high school diploma. Chinese language test scores of at least 210 on the HSK (Level 4) or 60 on the HSKK (Intermediate).
2. Master's degree students in International Chinese Education
Enrollment is in September 2025, and the duration of study is 3 years. The research directions of this major include: (1) Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (2) Research on Second Language Acquisition (3) Comparison of Chinese and Foreign Cultures and Research on the Communication of Chinese Culture. The funding period of the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education is 2 years. After the funding period expires and the application is approved, it can be converted into the Dalian University of Technology International Student President Scholarship. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree. Chinese language test scores of 210 points (Level 5), a minimum of 65 points (Writing (Composition), 60 points (Intermediate)) and other supporting materials are required. Applicants who provide a work agreement or relevant certificate from the institution they intend to teach after graduation will be given priority.
3. First-year trainees
Enrollment starts in September 2025, and the funding period is 11 months.
3.1 Chinese Language and Literature
The Chinese language test score must be 180 points for HSK (Level 4) or 60 points for HSKK (Intermediate).
3.2 Chinese Language Training
The Chinese language test score must be 210 points or higher on the HSK (Level 3). Applicants who provide HSKK scores will be given priority.
3.3 International Chinese Education
International Chinese education direction, Chinese language test score of HSK (Level 3) must be 270 points, and have HSKK score.
4. First-semester trainees
For admission in September 2025 or March 2026, the funding period is 5 months.
Students majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Studies, International Chinese Education, etc. must have a Chinese language test score of HSK (Level 3) of 180 points and an HSKK score.
5. Four-week trainee
For admission in July or December 2025, the funding period is 4 weeks.
We offer programs in Chinese Language Studies, Tai Chi Culture, and Chinese Language + Chinese Family Experience. Applicants must have an HSK score. Groups of 10-15 people can be registered by a recommending institution. They must contact the host institution in advance to finalize their study plan in China and submit the application to the center for approval in advance.
Category 2: Scholarship Online Project
1. One-year online Chinese language training program: Enrollment begins in September or March each year. Students must have an HSK (Level 3) score of 180 or higher. Applicants who provide HSKK scores will be given priority.
2. One-semester online Chinese language program: Enrollment begins in September or March each year. Generally, applicants must have a HSK score (no specific level or score requirements).
3. Specialized Online Training Programs: Please consult the relevant receiving institutions for specific application requirements and procedures.
III. Application Procedures
Starting from February 20, 2025, applicants can log on to the website of the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center ( Contact E-Square to get the website ) and go to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship section to find recommended institutions and receiving universities. They can submit their application materials online and follow the application progress, review opinions, and scholarship review results. Scholarship recipients should confirm the procedures for studying in China with the receiving university and print their award certificates online. They should register for admission according to the time specified in the receiving university's admission notice.

Deadline (based on Beijing time):
1. July admission: The application deadline is April 15, and the review deadline for recommending institutions and receiving universities is April 25.
2. September admission: The application deadline is May 15, and the review deadline for recommending institutions and receiving universities is May 25.
3. December admission: The application deadline is September 15th, and the review deadline for recommending institutions and receiving universities is September 25th;
4. March 2026 admission: The application deadline is October 31, and the review deadline for recommending institutions and receiving institutions is November 10.
The center entrusts a panel of experts to conduct a centralized review. Scholarships are awarded based on HSK and HSKK test scores and levels, taking into account factors such as country of origin. The scholarship review process is completed approximately three months before admission and the results are announced.
IV. About Current Chinese Teachers and Chinese Bridge Award Winners
1. In-service Chinese teachers
In-service Chinese teachers applying for various scholarships can provide employment certificates and recommendation letters issued by their current institutions and will be given priority admission under the same conditions.
2. Chinese Bridge Award Winners
Those who have won the "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Certificate" in various Chinese Bridge Competitions should log in to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship website and submit application materials to the target receiving institution with the scholarship certificate.

V. Others
1. In principle, applicants who have received similar scholarships within the past three years will not be admitted to one-semester and one-year training programs.
2. For more information on relevant professional training programs and teaching courses, please consult your target host institution.
3. Applicants must understand the specific admission requirements and application deadlines of their target institutions and submit their application materials in accordance with relevant regulations.
4. Degree students are required to participate in an annual review. For details, please refer to the "Annual Review Methods for the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship".
5. Please contact the receiving institution promptly for admission-related matters.
6. Scholarship eligibility will be cancelled if students fail the entrance physical examination, drop out midway, fail to register on time without permission, or take a leave of absence.

Annex 1
International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Funding Content and Standards
The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses (except for four-week trainees) and comprehensive medical insurance.
1. Tuition fees will be used by the host institution to support the scholarship students' education and management, cultural activities, and Chinese language exams. The online scholarship program only covers tuition fees.
2. Accommodation fees are paid by the host institution. Free dormitories are generally provided for students, with double rooms as the standard. Scholarship students who choose to live off-campus, upon application and approval by the host institution, will receive monthly or quarterly accommodation fees. The monthly fee for doctoral students is RMB 1,000, and for other scholarship students, it is RMB 700.
3. Living allowance will be paid monthly by the host institution. Undergraduate students and one-year and one-semester trainees receive RMB 2,500 per month; Master's students majoring in International Chinese Education receive RMB 3,000 per month; and PhD students majoring in International Chinese Education receive RMB 3,500 per month.
Scholarship students must register for school on the date specified in the admission notice of the receiving institution; otherwise, their scholarship will be revoked. Students who register before the 15th of the month (inclusive) will receive a full monthly living allowance; students who register after the 15th will receive half a month's living allowance.
Scholarship students who leave China for more than 15 days due to personal reasons during their studies (excluding winter and summer vacations) will have their living allowance suspended.
Scholarship students who suspend or withdraw from studies for personal reasons or receive disciplinary action from the host institution will have their living allowance suspended from the date of suspension, withdrawal, or receipt of the disciplinary notice.
The living expenses of graduates will be paid until half a month after the graduation date determined by the school.
4. Comprehensive medical insurance premiums are regulated by the Ministry of Education of China's regulations for international students in China and are purchased by the host institution. The standard for four-week trainees is RMB 100 per person, for one-semester trainees it is RMB 400 per person, and for trainees of one academic year or longer it is RMB 800 per person per year.
Annex 2
International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Application Materials Checklist
1. Documentary documentation related to all applicants
1. Scanned copy of your passport photo page.
2. Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score report (valid for two years).
3. Recommendation letter from the head of the recommending institution.
II. Documents related to degree-seeking students
(1) Undergraduate students
1. Dalian University of Technology International Student Admission Application Form (completed in the Dalian University of Technology International Education School online application system).
2. Notarized high school diploma:
If the applicant is currently a student, they must also submit a certificate of enrollment issued by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English translation.
3. Academic transcripts:
Transcripts should cover all high school courses, up to the most recent semester. Transcripts should be issued and stamped by the academic affairs office or relevant student affairs department of your current school. Transcripts in Chinese or English are acceptable. If the transcript is in a language other than English, a notarized English translation is required.
4. Personal Statement/Study Plan in China:
Written in Chinese or English, not less than 600 words.
5. Letter of Recommendation:
One letter from the high school principal or teacher (signed by the recommender and including email address and contact number).
6. Physical examination records of foreigners:
Applicants must strictly follow the requirements of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" and complete it in both Chinese and English. A "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" that is missing any items, does not include a photograph or has a stamp on the photograph, or lacks the signatures and stamps of the physician and the hospital will be invalid. The physical examination record is valid for six months.
7. Blood test report:
Blood test reports should include HIV, VDRL, HbsAg and HCV test results.
8. Scanned copy of the applicant’s passport front page and blank visa page:
The passport should be valid until September 2025.
9. Criminal record certificate:
Valid for 6 months. If you cannot provide it during the application process, you can sign a "Criminal Record Commitment" as a temporary substitute document.
10. Other materials:
(1) Applicants who are already studying in China are required to submit the visa page of their passport;
(2) One photo (3cm*4cm);
(3) As of September 1, 2025, applicants under the age of 18 must provide notarized documents from their guardians.
Note:
a. The materials do not meet the requirements and will not be accepted;
b. Items 2 to 10 must be uploaded to the Dalian University of Technology International Education School online registration system;
c. All the above documents must be in Chinese or English. For documents in other languages, notarized translations must be provided.
d. During the review process, the school may require students to submit other materials as needed.
(2) Graduate students
1. Dalian University of Technology Admission Application Form:

2. Notarized highest academic qualification certificate:
If the applicant is currently a student, they must also submit a certificate of enrollment issued by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English translation.
3. Academic transcripts (from undergraduate level onwards):
Scanned copies of transcripts should include grades from your academic period up to the most recent semester. Transcripts should be issued and stamped by the Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, or relevant student affairs department of your university. Transcripts in Chinese or English are acceptable. Transcripts in languages other than English require a notarized English translation.
4. Study Plan in China (no less than 1000 words):
Please write in Chinese or English. Please elaborate on your proposed major or research direction at our university. Your research plan must be signed by your advisor. A study plan template is available in Appendix 1.
5. Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors at the applicant’s former university:
Please write in Chinese or English. The content should focus on the applicant's study goals in China, as well as an evaluation of the student's overall ability and future development.
6. Physical examination records of foreigners:
Applicants must strictly follow the requirements of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" and complete it in English. A "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" that is missing any items, does not include a photo or has a stamp on the photo, or lacks the signatures and stamps of the physician and the hospital will be invalid. The physical examination record is valid for six months.
7. Blood test report:
Blood test reports should include HIV, VDRL, HbsAg and HCV test results.
8. Scanned copy of the applicant’s passport front page and blank visa page:
The passport should be valid until September 2025.
9. Criminal record certificate:

(1) Letter of Acceptance (optional): Applicants may contact their supervisor for assessment and obtain a letter of acceptance.

(3) Applicants who are already studying in China must submit the visa page of their passport;
(4) 1 photo (3cm*4cm).
3. In-service Chinese teachers must attach a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation issued by their current employer.
