1. Scholarship Introduction
To better promote the great achievements of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, known as "the banner of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation," inherit and promote the Kah Kee spirit, and attract and encourage more outstanding Chinese students to study in Xiamen, the Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Education Foundation has established the "Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Scholarship." Xiamen University is one of the institutions enrolled in this scholarship program.
Xiamen University (XMU), founded in 1921 by the renowned overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in modern Chinese educational history. It is a high-level university selected as a key project under the national "211 Project" and "985 Project," and has been selected as a national "World-Class Universities and First-Class Disciplines" ("Double First-Class") university. Surrounded by Xiamen Bay, nestled between mountains and the sea, the campus boasts stunning scenery, earning it a reputation as one of the most beautiful universities in the world.
The university has campuses in Siming, Zhangzhou, Xiang'an, and Malaysia, and boasts a Graduate School, six academic divisions, 34 schools (directly affiliated departments), and 17 research institutes. Nineteen disciplines rank in the top 1% globally in the ESI (Electronic Standard Index), including chemistry, materials science, and engineering, which are ranked in the top 1‰ globally. In 2022, six disciplines—education, chemistry, marine science, biology, ecology, and statistics—were selected for the national list of world-class disciplines. The university has nearly 3,000 full-time faculty members, 74% of whom are professors or associate professors. The university boasts 35 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The university currently has over 44,000 students, including over 21,000 undergraduates, over 19,000 graduate students, and over 5,000 doctoral students.
The university has deepened its international exchanges and cooperation, signing inter-university cooperation agreements with 265 universities abroad. It has established 14 Confucius Institutes, one Chinese Language and Culture Research Center , and 42 Confucius Classrooms in 12 countries across five continents. Among the "Double First-Class" universities, Xiamen University boasts the largest number of Confucius Institutes and the widest distribution of Confucius Institutes among its Chinese partners. In July 2014, Xiamen University Malaysia laid the foundation stone, becoming the first Chinese university to establish an independent campus overseas. It has been hailed by central media as a pearl embedded in the Belt and Road Initiative.
II. Application Requirements
1. Foreign Chinese holding a valid ordinary passport from a country participating in the construction of the Maritime Silk Road (mainly Southeast Asian countries).
2. Support One China, be friendly to one’s motherland, abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government, and maintain good health.
3. Applicant's educational background and age requirements (as of September 1 of the admission year):
(1) Undergraduate students: high school degree or above, age not exceeding 30 years old;
(2) Master’s students: Bachelor’s degree or above, age not exceeding 35 years old;
(3) Doctoral students: Master’s degree or above, age not exceeding 40.
Note:
(1) Applicants who have received other scholarships or grants are not eligible for the Tan Kah Kee Scholarship.
(2) According to relevant regulations, foreign Chinese, including former Chinese citizens who have acquired foreign nationality and their foreign children, and foreign children of Chinese citizens, must pass the nationality status pre-screening conducted by the school during the admission stage and the nationality verification conducted by the Chinese public security agency's exit and entry administration department after admission. Those who fail to pass the nationality status pre-screening or nationality verification will be deemed to have automatically waived their application qualifications and any subsequent admission qualifications or student status that may be obtained.
(3) According to Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, if one or both of their parents are Chinese citizens and reside in a foreign country, and the person was born in a foreign country and has foreign nationality at birth, he or she does not have Chinese nationality. From 2021, those who apply to study at our undergraduate and junior college level as international students, in addition to meeting the school's other registration requirements, must also hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for 4 years (inclusive) or more, and have a record of actually living in a foreign country for more than 2 years in the last 4 years (before April 30 of the year of admission) (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps). Residents of the mainland (mainland), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who apply to study at our undergraduate and junior college level as international students after immigrating and obtaining foreign nationality should also meet this requirement.

IV. Scholarship Duration
1. Undergraduate students: 4 or 5 academic years, scholarship period: 4 or 5 academic years;
2. Master’s students: duration of study is 2 or 3 academic years, and scholarship period is 2 or 3 academic years;
3. Doctoral students: The duration of study is 4 academic years, and the scholarship period is 4 academic years.
Note: Scholarship recipients must participate in annual review in accordance with relevant scholarship management regulations. Those who pass the review can continue to apply for or receive the scholarship for the next academic year. Those who fail the review will have their scholarship eligibility suspended or revoked. The specific annual review regulations and methods are subject to the latest notice issued in that year.
5. Scholarship quota: 10 undergraduates, 4 master's students, and 3 doctoral students.
Note: The final number of funding places will be adjusted by the Tan Kah Kee Scholarship Leading Group based on the actual application situation.
VI. Scholarship Details
1. Funding Standard: RMB 50,000/year for undergraduates, RMB 60,000/year for master's students, and RMB 70,000/year for doctoral students.
2. Disbursement Method: The scholarship will be used primarily to offset tuition and insurance premiums, with the remainder paid monthly for accommodation and living expenses.
Note: If students live on campus, they must pay the on-campus accommodation fee and water and electricity fees according to the charging standards.

8. Application Procedure
Applicants for the Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Scholarship must apply for our undergraduate, master's or doctoral programs and be admitted to our school before they are eligible to participate in the scholarship selection.
Eligible applicants must complete the online registration process through the Xiamen University International Student Online Application System (Contact E-Square to get more scholarships information) and upload the Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Scholarship Application Form, the "Certificate of Ethnic Chinese Origin" (Contact E-Square to get more scholarships information) , and scanned . The scholarship application form must be completed in Chinese or English and signed by the applicant; the "Certificate of Ethnic Chinese Origin" must be stamped with the official seal of the institution and signed by the responsible person. No paper documents need to be mailed. IX. Selection Process and Announcement of Results
Scholarship selection is based on the principles of openness, fairness, impartiality, and merit-based selection. Our university will comprehensively consider applicants' academic performance, language proficiency, academic ability, letters of recommendation, and overall quality. We will select the best candidates for the scholarship according to the relevant procedures. These candidates will be submitted to the Tan Kah Kee Scholarship Steering Group for centralized review and finalization . Scholarship results are expected to be announced in July on our international student admissions website.
