1. Scholarship Introduction
To further promote international exchange and cooperation in Fujian's education sector and foster the healthy development of international student education in China, the Fujian Provincial Government established the "Foreign Student Scholarship Program" in 2012. The "University Independent Recruitment of Foreign Students Program" is open to international undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, with applications recommended by individual universities.

Xiamen University (XMU), founded in 1921 by the renowned overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in modern Chinese educational history. It is a high-level university selected as a key project under the national "211 Project" and "985 Project," and has been selected as a national "World-Class Universities and First-Class Disciplines" ("Double First-Class") university. Surrounded by Xiamen Bay, nestled between mountains and the sea, the campus boasts stunning scenery, earning it a reputation as one of the most beautiful universities in the world.
The university has campuses in Siming, Zhangzhou, Xiang'an, and Malaysia, and boasts a Graduate School, six academic divisions, 34 schools (directly affiliated departments), and 17 research institutes. Nineteen disciplines rank in the top 1% globally in the ESI (Electronic Standard Index), including chemistry, materials science, and engineering, which are ranked in the top 1‰ globally. In 2022, six disciplines—chemistry, marine science, biology, ecology, statistics, and education—were selected for the national list of world-class disciplines. The university has nearly 3,000 full-time faculty members, 74% of whom are professors or associate professors. The university boasts 35 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The university currently has over 46,000 students, including over 21,000 undergraduates, over 19,000 graduate students, and over 5,700 doctoral students.
Xiamen University adheres to an open education model and has signed inter-university cooperation agreements with 270 universities abroad. Actively involved in international Chinese language education, the university has established 14 Confucius Institutes, one Chinese Language and Culture Research Center, and 42 affiliated Confucius Classrooms in 12 countries across five continents. Among the "Double First-Class" universities, Xiamen University boasts the largest number of Confucius Institutes and the widest distribution of Confucius Institutes. In September 2013, Xiamen University received approval for its Malaysia campus, becoming the first Chinese university to establish an independent campus overseas.
