Implementation Plan for the “Study Abroad at Wuhan University – Academic Scholarship for New Students”
In order to support the school's "Double First-Class" construction and the realization of the internationalization construction goals of the "14th Five-Year Plan", and to attract more outstanding international students to study in Wuhan University, according to the implementation measures of the "Study Abroad in Wuhan University Scholarship", the "Study Abroad in Wuhan University - Academic Freshman Scholarship" is specially established.
1. Scholarship Amount and Targets
This scholarship is intended to award 100 scholarships annually, including 80 undergraduates and 20 master's and doctoral students. Applicants who have already received scholarships from the Chinese government or other organizations, such as the Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, foreign government scholarships, foreign corporate scholarships, or Chinese corporate scholarships, are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. This scholarship only supports new self-funded students studying in China.
The actual number of places released for the "Study in Wuhan University - Academic Scholarship for Freshmen" will be dynamically adjusted based on the specific operating conditions each year, and the coverage, level and award standards of the freshman scholarship will be adjusted dynamically.
II. Application Method and Time
Applicants should apply on the admissions website of Wuhan University International Education College (Direct Contact E-Square to get Application fee waiver). The application period is from March 5 to May 20 each year.
III. Application Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Applicants whose native language is English or whose previous academic qualifications were taught in English may be exempted from providing proof of English proficiency upon approval by our school .

4. Academic level: Determined by the instructor, it is recommended that a comprehensive assessment be conducted based on the applicant's previous research topics and publication status.
IV. Scholarship Funding Standards
The scholarship is RMB 8,000 per student for doctoral students, RMB 6,000 per student for master's students, and RMB 4,000 per student for undergraduate students. This scholarship is a one-time award and will be awarded upon registration in the first semester.
V. Application Materials
1. Personal passport front page and visa page for entry to China (if applicable);
2. Notarized highest academic degree certificate. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by Chinese or English translations.
3. Proof of language proficiency (such as HSK certificate, IELTS or TOEFL score report, etc.);
4. Notarized transcripts of your highest academic degree. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by Chinese or English translations.
5. Personal statement (required for undergraduate applicants, no less than 500 words) or research plan (required for graduate applicants, no less than 800 words for master's applicants and no less than 1,200 words for doctoral applicants), written in Chinese or English;
6. Undergraduate applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from the principal of their high school. Master's or doctoral applicants must provide two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (one of whom should be an on-campus advisor at Wuhan University). The letters should be written in either Chinese or English.
7. A copy of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" (printed by the Chinese health and quarantine authorities), completed in English. Since the examination results are valid for six months, please schedule your physical examination accordingly.
8. Proof of personal financial ability or financial guarantee (US$5,000 or more)
9. Certificate of No Criminal Record (Applicants who are already in China and have studied in China must also provide a certificate of academic performance issued by their former institution)
10. Other supporting materials (such as award certificates, scientific research results, research participation, etc.)
6. Major Selection
Applicants can choose their major based on their preferences on the admissions website of Wuhan University International Education College(Direct Contact E-Square to get Application fee waiver).
VII. Review and Admission
1. The School of International Education of Wuhan University will conduct a preliminary review of the applicant's materials;
2. Applicants who pass the preliminary review will be subject to academic assessment by the training unit;
3. The School of International Education organizes experts to select applicants who have passed the academic review;
4. The International Education College’s International Students Admissions Leadership Group will review and approve the final list of award winners;
5. The School of International Education of Wuhan University will publish the list of admitted students for the "Study in Wuhan University - Academic Scholarship" program on its website (http://admission.whu.edu.cn) before June 30th of each year. At the same time, the "Admission Notice" and "Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Studying in China" (JW202) will be mailed to applicants.
