To meet the international community's growing demand for Chinese language education professionals, promote the development of Chinese language education worldwide, and support the growth of international Chinese language education professionals, the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as the Language Exchange and Cooperation Center) has established the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship, focusing on cultivating qualified overseas Chinese language teachers. As one of the institutions receiving the scholarship, Tianjin University welcomes all recommending institutions to nominate outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to apply for the International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship to study and further their studies in international Chinese language education and related majors at Tianjin University.

I. Funding Targets
1. Non-Chinese nationals;
2. Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of Tianjin University;
3. Physically and mentally healthy, with excellent academic performance and good character;
4. Interested in engaging in Chinese education, teaching and related work;
5. Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old (calculated as of September 1, 2025). The age limit for in-service Chinese teachers is relaxed to 45 years old. Undergraduate scholarship applicants are generally under 25 years old.
II. Scholarship Categories and Application Requirements
Category 1: Chinese teacher training projects
1. Master's students in International Chinese Education : The funding period is two years. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree and a Chinese proficiency test score of 210 on the HSK (Level 5) or 60 on the HSKK (Intermediate). Applicants who provide a notarized employment agreement or other relevant documentation from the institution they intend to teach at after graduation will be given priority.
2. One-year research students : The funding period is 11 months. Applicants who have received similar scholarships within the past three years will not be admitted.
2.1 International Chinese Education Program: Applicants must have a Chinese proficiency test score of 270 or above on the HSK (Level 3) and possess a HSKK score.
2.2 For Chinese Language and Literature: Applicants must have a Chinese proficiency test score of at least 180 points on the HSK (Level 4) or 60 points on the HSKK (Intermediate).
2.3 Chinese Language Studies: Applicants must have a Chinese proficiency test score of 210 or above (Level 3). Applicants who provide HSKK scores will be given priority.
3. One-semester research students: The funding period is 5 months. Applicants who have received similar scholarships within the past 3 years will not be admitted.
3.1 International Chinese Education and Chinese Language and Literature: Applicants must have a Chinese proficiency test score of 180 or above (Level 3) and possess a HSKK score.
3.2 Tai Chi Culture Program: Applicants must have an HSK score. Applicants who also provide an HSKK score will be given priority.
4. Four-week Research Student: The funding period is four weeks. Applicants must have an HSK score. This program is organized by a group of recommending institutions. Applicants must contact Tianjin University in advance to confirm their study plans in China and submit their application to the Language Integration Center for approval. Each group consists of 10-15 people.
Category 2: Joint Training Program
"Chinese + Cross-border E-commerce" undergraduate program:
The Language Integration Center has partnered with Tianjin University to establish the Tianjin University International Chinese Teacher Scholarship, which is designed to support international students pursuing undergraduate programs in the "Chinese Language and Cross-border E-commerce" program. The scholarship will last for four years. Applicants must hold a high school diploma and a Chinese proficiency test score of 210 on the HSK (Level 4) or 60 on the HSKK (Intermediate).
Category 3: Scholarship Online Project
1. One-year online Chinese language training program: Applicants must have a Chinese proficiency test score of 180 or above on the HSK (Level 3). Applicants who provide HSKK scores will be given priority.
2. One-semester online Chinese language training program: Generally, applicants must have a Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) score (there are no specific requirements for level or score).
3. Specialized Online Training Program: Group application is required. Please contact Tianjin University for detailed application requirements and procedures.
III. Funding Content and Standards
The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, living expenses (except for four-week trainees), and comprehensive medical insurance. The monthly living allowance for Master's students in International Chinese Education is RMB 3,000, while the monthly living allowance for undergraduate, one-year, and one-semester trainees is RMB 2,500.
The online scholarship program only covers tuition fees.
Tianjin University provides free dormitories for scholarship students in double rooms. Students who wish to stay in single rooms will be required to pay the additional single room rate.

V. Application Process
1. All applicants must register and log in to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship application website (cis.chinese.cn) to apply, and also register and log in to the Tianjin University International Student Online Application System (Direct Contact E-Square Counselor) to apply. The specific steps are as follows:

Starting from March 1, 2025, applicants can log in to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship application website ( cis.chinese.cn ) to register an account, check the recommended institutions, and select Tianjin University as the receiving institution (applicants for the "Chinese + Cross-border E-commerce" undergraduate program, please click the check box in front of the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship of the partner institution), fill in and submit the application materials online, and attach electronic scanned copies of relevant supporting documents as required.
Tianjin University International Student Online Application System Operation Procedures:
Log in to Tianjin University's International Student Online Application System (Direct Contact E-Square Counselor) register an account, fill in your personal information online, submit your application materials, and attach scanned copies of relevant supporting documents as required.

2. The Language Integration Center will entrust a panel of experts to conduct a centralized review of the scholarship applications and announce the results approximately three months before the start of the program.
3. Applicants can check their application progress, review opinions, and scholarship evaluation results online. Award winners can print their award certificates online.
4. Tianjin University will confirm admission with the scholarship recipients based on the review results of the Language Integration Center;
5. Scholarship recipients must enroll in Tianjin University according to the time, method, and procedures specified in the admission notice.

VI. About Current Chinese Teachers and Chinese Bridge Award Winners
1. In-service Chinese teachers
In-service Chinese teachers applying for various scholarships can provide employment certificates and recommendation letters issued by their current institutions and will be given priority admission under the same conditions.
2. Chinese Bridge Award Winners
Those who have received the "International Chinese Teacher Scholarship Certificate" from various Chinese Bridge competitions should visit the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship website and submit their application materials to Tianjin University with their scholarship certificate. VII. Scholarship Application Materials Checklist
(1) Documents related to all applicants
1. Scanned copy of your passport photo page;
2. Scanned copies of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for two years);
3. A letter of recommendation from the head of the recommending institution;
4. Provide notarized highest academic certificate (current students should provide proof of expected graduation) and academic transcripts;
5. Criminal record certificate. This document should usually be issued within 6 months of the date of application submission.
6. "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" (required for applicants applying for study for one academic year or longer). Please click here to download the template . The application form must be completed in English. Applicants must strictly follow the required items. Examination forms that are missing items, do not have a photo or a stamp on the photo, or are not signed and stamped by the physician and the hospital will be invalid. Since examination results are valid for six months, please schedule your physical examination accordingly.
(2) Documents related to degree-seeking students
7. Applicants with a Master's degree in International Chinese Education must provide letters of recommendation from two advisors with the rank of Associate Professor or higher. Applicants who provide a work agreement or other supporting documentation from their intended post-graduation teaching institution will be given priority.
(3) In-service Chinese teachers must attach a certificate of employment and a letter of recommendation issued by their current employer.
Note: If the above documents are not in Chinese or English, they must be notarized. Please upload the Criminal Record Certificate and the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" along with a scanned copy of your passport photo page to the "Basic Information - Passport First Page Upload" section of the application form. 

8. Precautions
1. Applications that are incomplete or do not meet the admission requirements will not be accepted.
2. If the application materials are false or not submitted by the applicant, the application will be disqualified once verified.
3. Scholarship recipients who are unable to register for any reason must notify the university in writing and clearly state the reason 15 days prior to the registration date. Scholarship eligibility will be revoked if the student fails to register without a valid reason.
4. Scholarship eligibility will be revoked for students who fail the entrance physical examination, drop out, or take a leave of absence.
