University Overview
South China University of Technology is located in Guangzhou. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. The campus is divided into Wushan Campus, University Town Campus and Guangzhou International Campus. It is the first recipient of the "National Civilized Campus". It entered the ranks of the "211 Project" in 1995, the "985 Project" in 2001, and the "Double First-Class" A-level universities in 2017. In 2023, it will enter the top 150 of the Shanghai Ranking of World Universities.
Today, South China University of Technology has developed into a comprehensive research university with a strong focus on engineering, a combination of science, engineering and medicine, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as management, economics, literature and law. Our school's 16 disciplines, including botany and zoology, physics, environmental science/ecology, biology and biochemistry, clinical medicine, economics and business, general social sciences, pharmacology and toxicology, mathematics, earth sciences, molecular biology and genetics, have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking; 5 disciplines, including engineering, materials science, chemistry, agricultural science, and computer science, have entered the top 1/1000 of the ESI; engineering has entered the top 1/10000 of the ESI. The field of engineering covers all engineering disciplines of the school, mainly distributed in 8 colleges, including machinery and automobile, chemical engineering, telecommunications, electricity, automation, environment, materials, and soil communication. Mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering, materials engineering, communication engineering, energy engineering and other disciplines are the main supporting disciplines. All of these disciplines have entered the top 50 of the world's top disciplines in the Soft Science Ranking of World Class Disciplines.
Admission requirements
① Non-Chinese citizens, age not exceeding 25 years old in principle;
② Valid passport information page, visa page or residence permit page (required for students studying in China);
③ Completed high school or equivalent courses, all subjects in the transcript must be passed or above, and high school graduates can submit a pre-graduation certificate (a high school diploma and a scanned copy of the original transcript must be submitted before admission);
④ Language proficiency certificate (valid for 2 years, until the start of September);
(1) Chinese proficiency requirements for Chinese-taught programs
· Science and engineering majors must achieve HSK level 4 score of 180 or above;
· Majors in liberal arts, economics and management, foreign languages, art, design, architecture, and sports must achieve HSK level 5 score of 180 or above;
· Applicants majoring in Chinese International Education must score 180 or above on HSK Level 4.
(2) English proficiency requirements for English-taught courses
TOEFL IBT 68 or above; IELTS 5.5 or above (for students whose native language is not English); Duolingo English Test 100 or above; or equivalent English proficiency certificate;
TOEFL EssentiasTM Scores and TOEFL MyBest Scores are acceptable.
(3) Language proficiency requirements for bilingual programs
· Science and engineering majors must achieve HSK Level 4 scores of 180 or above; business and management majors must achieve HSK Level 5 scores of 180 or above;
TOEFL IBT 68 or above; IELTS 5.5 or above (for students whose native language is not English); Duolingo English Test 100 or above; or equivalent English proficiency certificate;
·TOEFL Essentials TMScores and TOEFL MyBest° Scores are acceptable.
To be exempt from submitting English proficiency certificate, the following conditions must be met:
· Students whose native language is English;
Students whose highest academic qualification is taught in English must submit proof of English teaching.
Students applying for art majors must submit their own music/dance works;
Students applying for architecture and design majors are required to provide an art/design portfolio;
Applicants to the School of Architecture and the colleges affiliated to the International Campus are required to take the examinations/interviews organized by the professional colleges. Those who fail the examinations/interviews can apply to transfer to other majors if they meet the admission requirements of other majors.
