I. About the University

Tianjin is one of China's four municipalities directly under the central government. It is a central city, a historic and cultural capital, a modern coastal metropolis, an international transportation hub, a national hub for advanced manufacturing and R&D, a core area for international shipping in northern China, a demonstration zone for financial innovation, and a key region in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy.

Founded in 1958, Tianjin University of Sport (TUS) is one of the earliest established higher education institutions for sports in the People’s Republic of China. The university has a strong academic foundation and excellent educational resources, cultivating a large number of outstanding sports talents for the country. The modern campus spans 1,115.7 mu (approx. 74.4 hectares), with a total building area of 388,600 square meters, equipped with top-tier international-standard sports facilities. The university currently hosts over 7,300 students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students, and international students.

TUS has a complete talent cultivation system from bachelor's to doctoral degrees, with postdoctoral research programs. The academic structure is primarily based on sports science, integrated with disciplines such as education, management, literature, arts, science, and medicine. TUS is authorized to award doctoral degrees and has a postdoctoral research station in sports science. It has two first-level disciplines authorized to award master’s degrees (sports science and education) and three professional master’s programs (sports, journalism & communication, applied psychology). The university has one priority development discipline, one city-level first-class discipline, one key discipline, one top-tier discipline, one industry-focused discipline cluster, and one top-tier discipline under development.

There are 21 undergraduate programs, including 11 national and municipal-level first-class programs, five key municipal-level programs, and seven applied programs. The university operates 35 research platforms at the provincial, ministerial, bureau, and university levels, including key laboratories and think tanks such as:

  • “Psychological and Physiological Regulation in Competitive Sports” Key Laboratory of the General Administration of Sport

  • “Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine” Key Laboratory of Tianjin

  • “Sports Humanities and Social Science Research Center” under the General Administration of Sport

  • “National Physical Fitness and Active Health” Innovation Think Tank

The university has established professional sports academies and training centers, including:

  • China Volleyball Academy

  • China Baseball Academy

  • China Cricket Academy

  • China Sports Dance Academy

  • National Breaking (Breakdance) Training Base

In partnership with the Tianjin Sports Bureau, it also co-runs teams for rowing, rugby, badminton, and baseball. TUS is committed to developing elite sports talents through centers like the National Youth Training Center for Volleyball and the Tianjin Youth Reserve Talent Bases. Students have achieved outstanding results in the Olympics, Asian Games, and university-level competitions.

TUS actively promotes international cooperation and exchange. It has established partnerships with over 20 internationally renowned universities, including Springfield College (USA), University College Dublin (Ireland), German Sport University Cologne, and Fukuoka University (Japan). It also founded the first "Wushu Cultural Experience Base for International Students in Tianjin," promoting Chinese martial arts globally.

To support international education, TUS provides its own International Student Scholarship and recommends qualified students for the Tianjin Government Scholarship.

II. Admission Categories

Note: If students demonstrate strong Chinese proficiency during assessment, submission of HSK certificate may be waived or postponed.



III. Application Materials

  3. Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (Attachment 2)

  4. Certificate of No Criminal Record (from home country or local public security bureau if in China)

  5. Highest diploma or certificate (with notarized Chinese/English translation if in other languages)

  6. Academic transcripts (with notarized Chinese/English translation if in other languages)

  7. 2 ID photos (passport-size)

  8. HSK Certificate (Level 4 or above) – not required for Malaysian Independent High School graduates

  9. English Proficiency Certificate or academic English transcript

  10. Personal Statement (800+ words: study plan, financial situation, awards, talents, etc.)

  11. Recommendation Letters (Master’s & Ph.D. applicants: 2 from professors/associate professors)

  12. Tianjin Government Scholarship Application Form (Attachment 3, optional)

V. Accommodation

  • On-campus student dormitories with private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning (rental).

  • Accommodation Fee: RMB 6,000/year/person



VI. Tuition & Fees

  • Tuition (Chinese-medium programs):

    • Undergraduate: RMB 20,000/year

    • Master’s: RMB 30,000/year

    • Ph.D.: RMB 40,000/year

  • Accommodation: RMB 6,000/year/person

  • Medical Insurance: RMB 800/year (mandatory)

VII. Scholarships

1. Tianjin Government Scholarship

  • One-year funding, awarded annually.

  • Includes First-Class and Second-Class awards.

  • Submit the application form along with your admission materials.

2. Tianjin University of Sport International Student Scholarship

  • University-level scholarship with First-Class and Second-Class tiers.

  • Awarded based on academic performance and other criteria.

  • Cannot be received together with the Tianjin Government Scholarship.



VIII. Application Procedure

  1. Submit Application

    • Deadline: May 31, 2025

  2. Preliminary Review

    • Conducted by the International Office of TUS

  3. Secondary Review & Interview

    • Admissions panel will review and may conduct an interview

    • Time and method will be notified via email

  4. Admission Decision

    • Final decision based on materials, review, and Ministry of Education policies

    • Admission results will be published on the university website



IX. Visa Application

Admitted students should apply for a Student Visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate:

  • For programs longer than 6 months: X1 Visa

  • For programs shorter than 6 months: X2 Visa

Procedures may vary by country. Check with your local Chinese Embassy.



X. Registration & Enrollment

  • Time: September 2025 (Refer to the Admission Letter for exact date)

Students must register on time. Those who cannot arrive must request leave. Failure to register without approval will result in disqualification. All submitted documents will be re-verified upon arrival.
