Tianjin University offers 67 undergraduate programs. The duration of study is 4 years (5 years for Architecture). Three programs are available in English: Chemical Engineering and Technology, Environmental Engineering, and Pharmacy (Pharmacy is only available in English). Upon completion of the required curriculum, passing all examinations, and successfully defending the thesis, students will receive an undergraduate diploma. Those who meet the degree requirements will be awarded a bachelor's degree. Additionally, all Chinese-taught undergraduate students must reach Level 5 of the International Chinese Language Proficiency Standards before graduation (Chinese Language majors must reach Level 6), while English-taught undergraduate students must reach Level 4.

I. Application Requirements

  1. Non-Chinese citizens. For former Chinese citizens who have acquired foreign nationality, the university follows the Ministry of Education Document No. 12 [2020].
  2. Applicants must be between 18-25 years old and have graduated from high school. Applicants under 18 years old by September 1st of the enrollment year must submit a notarized guardian certificate from a Tianjin notary office, with the guardian being a permanent resident of Tianjin. Applicants should be of good character, in good health, and willing to comply with Chinese laws and university regulations.
  3. Language Requirements:
    • For Chinese-taught programs, HSK scores must meet the following standards:
      • International Education College programs: New HSK Level 4 with 180 points or above;
      • Other undergraduate programs: New HSK Level 5 with 180 points or above.
    • For English-taught programs, English proficiency must be IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 points or above (exempted for native English speakers as determined by the university).
Note: Native Chinese speakers or those who received high school education in Chinese may be exempted from providing HSK scores upon university approval.

II. Application Procedure

Applicants should register and complete the application form on the Tianjin University International Student Management System within the specified period.

Application Period:

October 15th to April 20th of the following year

Note: Due to limited scholarship quotas, scholarship applicants should submit their applications before April 1st. See the "Scholarships" section for details.

Required Application Documents:

  1. High school diploma or notarized copy (prospective graduates should submit an expected graduation certificate, with the diploma to be submitted after admission);
  2. Complete high school academic transcripts or notarized copies; or international standardized test scores (such as SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB);
  3. Passport first page copy (ordinary passport valid until March 1st of the following year): For former Chinese citizens or those with foreign passports but Chinese parents, additional documents including naturalization proof, Chinese nationality renunciation proof, or foreign birth certificate, and visa records for the past four years are required;
  4. Chinese or English proficiency certificates (see requirements above);
  5. Resume from high school to present;
  6. Study plan (600 words or more, in Chinese for Chinese-taught programs, in English for English-taught programs);
  7. Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, completed in Chinese or English;
  8. For current students in China: passport visa pages and good standing certificate from current school, plus withdrawal certificate for university students;
  9. Criminal record certificate, issued within 6 months before application (current students may submit good standing certificate);
  10. Bank deposit certificate or financial guarantor's income proof;
  11. Guardian notarization for applicants under 18 by September 1st of the enrollment year;
  12. Additional documents (such as award certificates).

III. Review and Admission

Tianjin University will select students based on their high school academic performance, language proficiency, and interview or written test results (interview or test time will be notified separately). Applicants should check their email or the online application system for application status.

Admitted students (except those pre-admitted with Chinese Government Scholarship) must pay a 7,000 RMB deposit and 420 RMB application fee within the specified period.

Deposit and application fee are non-refundable if students withdraw for personal reasons.

IV. Scholarships

1. Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A) (Chinese-taught programs only)

Applicants should apply through the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their country, listing "Tianjin University" as their first choice in the Chinese Government Scholarship application form.

2. Qiushi Scholarship/Tianjin University Scholarship/Tianjin University Chemical Engineering Special Scholarship

Applicants should upload the scholarship application form in the "Others" section of the online application system.

V. Visa Application and Registration

  1. Admitted students should apply for an X1 visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate with their passport, admission notice, JW202 form, physical examination record, and related documents, then register at Tianjin University according to the notice.
  2. Fall registration usually takes place in late August or early September. New students must bring original degree certificates for verification and provide notarized copies of degree certificates. Students who fail to meet admission requirements will have their admission revoked.

VI. Fees (in RMB)

  1. Application Fee: 420 RMB (paid after admission, waived for Chinese Government Scholarship recipients);
  2. Tuition Fees:
