I. Application Requirements
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens who meet the requirements of the Ministry of Education's document Jiao Wai Han [2020] No. 12. Applicants should be in good health and willing to comply with Chinese laws and regulations and Wuhan University's rules and regulations.
2. Applicants should be between 18 and 25 years old, with age calculated as of September 1st of the enrollment year. Applicants under 18 must submit a guardian's guarantee letter during application.
3. Language Proficiency
For Chinese-taught programs, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 180 in New HSK Level 4. Native Chinese speakers or those who received high school education in Chinese may be exempted from providing HSK scores upon university approval.
For English-taught programs, applicants must achieve TOEFL 80+, TOEFL Essential 8+, or IELTS 6.0+. Native English speakers or those who received their previous education in English may be exempted from providing TOEFL or IELTS scores upon university approval.
For Chinese Language major applicants, those with HSK Level 4 score of 180 or above and one year or more of Chinese language study at a higher education institution with excellent performance may apply for direct entry into Year 2 after passing the assessment by the School of International Education.
Those with HSK Level 5 score of 180 or above and two years or more of Chinese language study at a higher education institution with excellent performance may apply for direct entry into Year 3 after passing the assessment by the School of International Education.
4. Requirements for Ethnic Chinese Applicants
Applicants whose parents are Chinese citizens or who have obtained foreign nationality after emigrating from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan must have held their foreign nationality for at least 4 years and have resided abroad for at least 2 years in the last 4 years (as of April 30, 2025). (9 months of actual residence abroad in a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
Applicants born abroad must also meet the above requirements and submit their birth certificate and parents' nationality documents.
II. Application Process

2. Submit Application Materials
- Ordinary passport first page (valid until at least December 2026) and China visa page (if any)
- High school diploma or pre-graduation certificate (in Chinese or English)
- High school transcript (in Chinese or English)
- HSK test score (for Chinese-taught programs only)
- Financial capacity proof or financial guarantee (USD 5,000 or above)
- TOEFL or IELTS score (for English-taught programs only)
- For applicants currently in China with previous study experience, a statement of academic performance from the previous institution is required
- Physical examination report within 6 months (original copy must be submitted during registration)

3. Interview and Written Test
Applicants who pass the document review will proceed to the interview and written test stage. The time and method of interview and written test will be notified by email after document review. Exceptionally outstanding applicants may be exempted from the interview after expert review.
III. Application, Admission, and Registration Timeline
1. Self-funded Student Application Period
- Spring 2025 Semester: October 20, 2024 to December 30, 2024
- Fall 2025 Semester: December 1, 2024 to June 15, 2025
- Spring 2026 Semester: October to December 2025
2. Self-funded Student Admission Timeline
The university will announce admission results in batches based on student applications and interview performance. For specific details, please consult E-Square teachers.
3. Registration Time
New international student registration is from August to September each year. Please refer to the admission notice for specific dates.
During registration, students must bring complete registration materials, including original ordinary passport (diplomatic and official passports are not accepted), admission notice, visa application form (JW202/JW201), and student visa. New students must bring the required Chinese or English degree certificates and transcripts or notarized copies for university verification. Those who do not meet the admission requirements will have their admission revoked.

IV. Visa Application
Admitted students should apply for a student visa (X1 or X2) at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country of nationality or residence, or other overseas institutions authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before entering China. Required documents include: ordinary passport, admission notice from the admission documents, visa application form for foreign students, physical examination record, and all physical examination reports (including blood test).
Admitted students currently studying in China may continue their studies with their existing visa.
V. Accommodation
The School of International Education will arrange on-campus accommodation for new students who register within the specified time.
VI. Program Duration, Degree Award
Wuhan University's undergraduate programs last four to six years, primarily taught in Chinese, with some programs taught in English. For details, please refer to "Attachment 1: Wuhan University International Undergraduate Programs (Chinese-taught)" and "Attachment 2: Wuhan University International Undergraduate Programs (English-taught)". Upon completion of the required curriculum, passing all assessments, and successfully defending their thesis, students will receive an undergraduate diploma and be awarded a bachelor's degree after degree review.
