Year one at West Campus builds a sociology foundation through sociological imagination, becoming a social researcher, crime and deviance, investigating social problems, theorising the social world, and understanding self in society. You develop research skills, critical reading, and the concepts used across the degree. Teaching links theory with contemporary social questions so you can connect ideas to evidence. By the end of the year you should be ready for inequality, research practice, and climate sociology in year two.

Year two develops intermediate sociology through inequality marginalisation and resistance, doing research, and societies and the climate crisis. You apply sociological methods to more demanding social and environmental questions with greater independence. Modules strengthen evidence use, critical evaluation, and the ability to design and interpret social research. You leave the year prepared for an undergraduate dissertation and creating sociological alternatives in year three.

Year three completes your sociology degree through an undergraduate dissertation and creating sociological alternatives that draw on earlier theory, research, and inequality learning. You plan and complete an independent investigation with professional documentation and critical reflection. The year consolidates analytical judgement, scholarly writing, and socially engaged thinking valued by graduate employers. Graduates are prepared for sociologist, social researcher, social scientist, policy analyst, and social policy analyst pathways across research, government, and the third sector.
